An orangery is basically a conservatory with a twist – instead of the roof being supported by window frames-  the frames are generally divided by posts, which then a flat roof is made with a conservatory glass roof in the middle.

This allows for things like down lights – better energy efficiency through the use of cavity walls, and a more permanent feel to the extension.
